Everything is bigger in Texas, and the saying holds true for even our fireworks displays! From the smallest of towns to the large metropolises, you shouldn’t have to travel far to find a huge fireworks display on the 4th of July.
With the sheer number of events happening across the Lone Star State, it can be hard to choose where to go, so we created a list of the three coolest places to watch fireworks in Texas to celebrate America’s Independence Day.
1) Addison Kaboom Town
Located just outside of Dallas, Addison’s fireworks display is recognized as one of the top 10 fireworks displays in the US by the American Pyrotechnics Association. Kaboom Town features a breathtaking fireworks show plus plenty of family-friendly entertainment before the Big Show. With family games, air shows, a full carnival, live music, and concessions, there is something for everyone. Please make note that this event takes place on July 3rd rather than July 4th.
- When: Sunday, July 3, 2016 from 4:00 – 11:30 pm. Fireworks are launched at dusk (around 9:30 pm).
- Where: Addison Circle Park 4970 Addison Circle Dr., Addison, TX
- Cost: FREE
2) Austin Symphony & Fireworks
For those folks who live in or are visiting the Hill Country for the 4th of July, make the journey to Austin for your fireworks. The H-E-B Austin Symphony 40th Annual July 4th Concert and Fireworks show is one of the coolest Independence Day celebrations in Texas. Pick a grassy spot down at Vic Mathias Shores (formerly Auditorium Shores) to hear the beautiful sounds of the Austin Symphony Orchestra. Then stay for the grand fireworks show over the city’s skyline, accompanied by patriotic classics performed by the symphony. It’s sure to be a night to remember.
- When: Monday, July 4, 2016. The symphony begins at 8:30 pm and the fireworks ignite about 9:30 pm.
- Where: Vic Mathias Shores
- Cost: Free
3) Freedom Over Texas in Houston
Houston’s annual Freedom Over Texas features the largest (land-based) fireworks display in the US, and it’s choreographed to music to enhance your viewing experience. Before the fireworks ignite, there is plenty of fun for the entire family: a Kids Zone filled with children’s entertainment, a Beer Garden, as well as other entertainment areas. To top off the evening, visitors can enjoy live music from Darius Rucker, the former lead vocalist of Hootie and the Blowfish.
- When: Monday, July 4, 2016 from 4:00 – 10:00 pm.
- Where: Eleanor Tinsley Park 901 Bagby, Houston, TX
- Cost: $8 online from July 1-3rd/$10 Day of Event (children 5 & under FREE)
4) South Padre Island
Not only is South Padre Island one of the most popular vacation destinations in Texas, but it’s also the place to be in terms of fireworks – and not just on Independence Day! Visitors can enjoy a front-row seat to a fantastic fireworks display on the beach! Every Friday and Saturday from April through October, people can watch fireworks, a hula show, and live entertainment on the beach hosted by the Hilton Garden Inn.
If hula isn’t your thing, Louie’s Backyard also offers “Fireworks over the Bay” every Thursday and Friday featuring their All-You-Can-Eat Prime Rib & Seafood Buffet as well. Be sure to stay until about 9:15 when the fireworks ignite.
