October is a busy month filled with Columbus Day sales, Halloween, and almost-here holiday gift-buying season. But before you make any big purchases this month, check out this month’s installment on what to buy in October.
Jeans & Fall Clothing
Major retailers from Sears to Gap to Express and more offer big deals of up to 40% on jeans and fall clothing. Fall apparel has been in stores since August, so retailers are starting to heavily discount these items to make room for winter fashions.
Off-Season Outdoor Gear
With the end of the summer season, outdoor summer gear for water sports and hiking will be heavily discounted this month. Academy is offering up to 75% off all clearance items, and Cabela’s is offering up to 50% off outdoor gear for boating and camping.
Caribbean & European Travel
October marks the start of the off-peak season for places like the Caribbean and Europe, which means there are good deals to be found on airfare, hotels, and cruises. In addition to good deals, off-peak season also means less tourists to deal with, which is also a big bonus.
While it may seem logical to get a head start on holiday shopping by purchasing all of the toys on your shopping list, it’s not budget-friendly. To find biggest savings, it’s best to wait until Black Friday to purchase any toys.
Most general electronics like laptops, cameras, tablets, and HDTV’s should remain OUT of your shopping cart this month if you are looking for the best deal. The best time to make these types of purchases is on Black Friday, which is luckily not too far away.
The rule for electronics should be applied to appliances. Dealnews has found that, during the month of November, there will be more than twice as many appliance discounts than any other month. These deals can mainly be attributed to Black Friday, but also because the new models of appliances are released each September and October, making November a great month to pick up last year’s models.
