Welcome to “What Do I Buy and When?” – our monthly series geared towards helping you make smarter buying decisions. Each month, you’ll learn which items retailers price to sell and which ones aren’t so you can find the best deals throughout the year. Our information is gathered from sites like DealNews and DailyFinance, places that search the retail world to find the best and worst deals. We want to help you save money!
In March, consumers are faced with big events like Spring Break and March Madness, and Easter is thrown into the mix this year. With so much going on, it can be hard to know what is and what is not priced to sell to make sure you save money (and don’t spend unnecessary funds). Never fear – our list of “good buys” and “bad buys” for March has arrived!
If you didn’t get enough of the sweet stuff last month, then March is the best time to get your fix. Stores are discounting their chocolate goods up to 90% off to move excess Valentine’s Day inventory off of the shelves to make room for Easter candy and related items. If it’s in a heart shape or bright red covering, it’s more than likely going to be cheap.
Even frozen foods have a month to their own, and it’s March! With National Frozen Food Month, consumers will find numerous discounts on frozen foods through coupons and in-store deals. Now is the time to stock up.
Winter Sports Gear
Spring break can be a popular time for Texans to head to hit the ski slopes for the snow that never arrived here in winter. So, if you need some snow gear, this month is surprisingly a good time to buy. Retailers are starting to make room for spring and summer sports apparel and equipment, so you will be able to find deals on items like snow jackets and snow boots.
Spring might arrive early in Texas, but don’t let the good weather trick you into purchasing your spring wardrobe already. Retailers are still trying to move out all winter inventory, so they’re heavily discounting those items instead. Your best bet for savings is to wait until May when the summer apparel is released.
Since Valentine’s Day related chocolates are heavily discounted this month, you’d think that naturally lingerie would be too. However, that’s not the case. Any potential deals on lingerie are few and far between this month. If looking to purchase, it’s best to wait until June and July when Victoria’s Secret has its Semi-Annual sale – since most other lingerie retailers follow suit.
