With holidays like Valentine’s Day and President’s Day, the month of February can seem like a great month for deals. Yet, while those deals can be attractive, it’s important to know which items are at their peak discounts this month as well as what items to avoid buying. Here are some items to look out for this month.

Love is in the air. And so are the sales!

Jewelry & Flowers. With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, it turns out that one can find proper deals this month on jewelry and flowers for the big day. For flowers, check out retailers like 1-800-Flowers and FTD, which are offering deals between 30-50% off on Valentine’s Day purchases. For jewelry, look at retailers like Blue Nile and Kay Jewelers for savings from 40-60% off.

Presidents’ Day Sales. Presidents’ Day (this year on February 15th!) and the weekend leading up to it generate major deals, especially on key items such as furniture, clothing, and home goods. Consumers will be able to find discounts of up to 70% on those items at most relevant retailers, regardless of your locale. In addition to the items above, mattresses tend to be discounted heavily during the Presidents’ Day sales push.

Tax Software. Retailers are already starting to discount their tax software in preparation for Tax Day (this year on April 18th!). Though discounts will continue into March, February is a great time to buy tax software to get the discounts while allowing yourself plenty of time to do your taxes.

Bad Buys:

Spring Apparel. Stores love attracting customers new and old with their spring line of apparel, but don’t fall for it! Spring apparel is not priced to sell this month. Resist the temptation and hold off until next month for better deals.

Sure, you want to be prepared for your trip, but not at the cost of over-spending on your luggage.

Luggage. February is a popular month for many to book spring break trips. With this being the case, discounts on luggage will be few and far between this month. To find better deals, wait till March.
