Do customers get notified before ERCOT rolling blackouts are implemented?
Typically, the TDU (transmission distribution utility) receives little or no notice in advance. Since these events are never scheduled in advance and in some cases emergency situations can progress rather quickly, there is often a very short window of time for notification. ERCOT will provide as much notice as is possible. Ideally, it is best for customers to conserve energy to help lessen the severity of the electric supply shortage.
