First Choice Power To Triple Customers’ Care to Share Donations

Help Low-income, Elderly Customers Stay Cool

(IRVING, TEXAS) – First Choice Power is tripling all donations to the Care to Share Fund this summer to help low-income and elderly customers stay cool. The Care to Share Fund provides bill payment assistance to eligible First Choice Power residential customers in need of emergency funding.

“We are working with our customers to help manage energy usage this summer as the temperatures rise,” said Jeff Weiser, president of First Choice Power. “We also want to assist residential customers who need a little extra help by providing extra emergency assistance through the Care to Share Fund. For every $1 a residential customer donates, First Choice Power will contribute $3 to the fund.”

First Choice Power will triple dollar-for-dollar every donation to the Care to Share Fund through Sept. 30, 2008.* Customers can donate by adding a donation to their monthly bill payment and submitting along with their check payment. Donations are tax deductible.

5 Simply Better Summer Energy-Saving Tips

  1. Set your thermostat at 78 degrees or higher, and increase the temperature about 8 degrees when your house is empty.
  2. Use floor and ceiling fans to make the room feel about 4 degrees cooler. If you use ceiling fans, you can turn the thermostat up a degree or two and keep the same cool feeling using less energy.
  3. Replace your air-conditioning filter each month to maximize its operating efficiency and reduce cooling costs as much as 10 percent.
  4. Caulk and weather-strip leaks around windows and doors to prevent cool air from escaping. You can save 10 percent or more by reducing cracks in your ceilings, walls and windows.
  5. Close drapes or blinds to block direct sunlight and reduce the amount of heat entering your home.
