We’re all in this together. Our employees give back with programs that serve the community.
Here’s what we’ve been up to lately:
School Supply Drive
It’s hard to succeed in school if you don’t have simple tools like pencils and notebooks. This fall, employees on the First Choice Power Community Crew personally donated hundreds of supplies to two partner schools in Walnut Hills and Sanderson. Donations included backpacks, binders, rulers, paper, scissors, pencils, index cards, folders and most anything else you could find on a school-supply list. “Our whole school benefits,” said Principal Taylor at Walnut Hills. “Any kid that shows up without school supplies, we’ll give them what they need.” Read more on our company blog, The Current.
Helping the United Way
Every year, First Choice Power partners with the United Way to help them in their mission of improving communities around Texas and around the world. Employees can choose to pledge directly to the United Way Community Fund, which helps those in need in the community, or to their favorite United Way nonprofit agency. Last year, employee participation increased by 30 percent and this year, we’re trying to increase our donations by an additional 15 percent.
Fueling Food First
We set the goal of donating 1,000,000 meals to Texans in need and in September 2011, during Hunger Action Month, we met our goal. We couldn’t have done it without our employees, they helped contribute more than 200,000 meals to our Food First Partners. Our employees are hard at work again as we tackle our next million meals.
