We Love A Good Western
If you’re interested in Western history, you’ll be sad if you missed the Western Days Festival in Old Town Lewisville. We were pleased to be a sponsor of this two-day event that included parades, arts and crafts, gun fight re-enactments, trick ropers, a car show, a Longhorn cattle drive, Tailwaggers Ranch and baking and grilling contests. There was lots of fun for the kids, too, including face painting, a petting zoo, sketch artists and a genuine stick-horse rodeo.
Friday wrapped up with a show by the Josh Abbott Band, and Saturday night had the one and only Pat Green headlining. In addition to the great food booths, Saturday marked the fourth annual World Tamale Eating Championship, and Beto Marroquin, the winner of First Choice Power’s Texas Tamale Series, competed against national eaters for a win. Beto traveled all the way from his hometown of Texas City to put up an honorable fight, eating 24 tamales in 12 minutes. In the end, the national title was retained by Tim “Eater X” Janus, who won the national contest for the fourth time. This year, Eater X ate 67 tamales, failing to match his all-time record of 71 tamales.
