Sun, Run, Fun for Everyone
There’s no better way to kick off summer than with the annual Texas City-La Marque FunFest, put on by the Chamber of Commerce on the weekend of June 10-11. This was the 22nd year for the event, which was held at the Carlos Garza Sports Complex. As a sponsor, First Choice Power provided drinks and balloons to keep attendees hydrated and happy.
So what makes FunFest fun? They had something for everyone. One of the most popular events was the BBQ Cook-Off, which featured 120 cooks competing for cash prizes with their brisket, pork ribs, chicken, beef fajitas and beans. First Choice Power’s own Gabe Sims teamed up with some folks from the City of Texas City to cook the meals for the hospitality tent, which fed local dignitaries and friends of the event. They did it up right, cooking rib eye steaks, potatoes and green beans for Friday night’s dinner and chicken, potato salad and barbeque beans for lunch on Saturday. Hopefully Gabe got to have a plate, too!
There were also tons of arts and crafts booths offering artsy crafty gifty items and all kinds of stuff you never thought about but you really wanted once you saw it. Amusements for the kids included a train, moonwalk, face painting, rock wall and even a mechanical bull.
“My favorite part was the band on Friday night,” Gabe told us. “The whole event has a great family atmosphere. My family was out there with me the whole time.”
