Tailgating with the Boys
We love to support our hometown team, especially when it’s for a great cause. That’s why we were thrilled to be part of the Taste of the NFL: The Ultimate Dallas Cowboys Tailgate Party to benefit the North Texas Food Bank. Set for Sunday, April 17 at The Glass Cactus at the Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine, the event offered the chance to mix and mingle with current and former Dallas Cowboys players and cheerleaders while enjoying gourmet food offerings, fabulous drinks, an exclusive silent auction, a variety of raffle prizes and live music.
The party was hosted by Dallas Cowboys players DeMarcus Ware and Marcus Spears, along with Abacus Executive Chef Kent Rathbun and five-time Super Bowl player and former Dallas Cowboy Preston Pearson.
The event was a huge success, raising more than $198,000 for the food bank — a 6% increase from 2010. That money will provide more than 590,000 meals. As a partner with the food bank and sponsor of the event, First Choice Power helped to get the donations rolling by providing the food bank with 48,000 meals for North Texas families in need. These meals will count toward our Million Meals challenge, one of the key initiatives of our Food First™ program to fight hunger here in Texas.
“Taste of the NFL was the most delicious way to celebrate a great cause,” said Brittany Adams, whose band, Downtown Fever, performed at the event. “The food was fabulous, the atmosphere was festive and the attendees were all enthusiastic to give.” For pictures and more information, visit the food bank’s website.
