Scout’s Honor
When you need help, ask a scout! At least, that’s what First Choice Power did with Scouting for Food, the latest effort in our Food First™ program to stop hunger here in Texas, the second hungriest state in the union.
During Scouting for Food, 8,464 meals were raised!
Each scout was asked to fill 10 biodegradable bags with canned goods and/or non-perishable food items. In addition to food, financial donations also were welcome (because food banks have greater buying power, every dollar given to a food bank can buy as many as eight meals!). All of the items and donations will count toward our Million Meals challenge.
Participating Boy Scout districts included:
-
Thunder District
-
Cradle District
-
Northern Star District
-
Coastal District
Each district identified a food bank within their district to receive the food donations. First Choice Power awarded a $500 Food First grant to Gleanings from the Harvest, the local Texas City food pantry, because their unit collected the most food. Way to go, Scouts!
