Mardi Gras to Help Kids
Here in Texas, more than 20 percent of children are uninsured, limiting their access to doctors and basic healthcare like immunizations and well-checks. Serving children in Denton, Dallas and Tarrant counties, PediPlace is a nonprofit that provides preventative healthcare and helps reduce emergency room visits. PediPlace provides more than 6,000 children with well-checks annually, including more than 10,000 immunizations.
Each year, the PediPlace Gala raises a huge percentage of the organization’s annual funding. This year’s theme was Bal Masque du Mardi Gras, and more than 400 people attended the event at the Celebrations Grand Ballroom. The event honored Dennis W. Song, RHP, as well as the CoServe Charitable Foundation.
As a sponsor, First Choice Power’s Lake Scalise, Shanta Cooper and Jason Simpson were on hand (although you probably didn’t recognize them behind their fancy Mardi Gras masks). The night began with cocktails and a silent auction of fine art, unique gifts and gorgeous jewelry, followed by a delicious New Orleans-style dinner. Lake was sad he didn’t win the raffle, but he told us: “I had a lot of fun seeing so many people from the community gathered together, and I enjoyed bidding on the auction items.”
“It was a great evening,” said Adam Morrison from PediPlace. “The gross for the event was over $75,000. We are still calculating the net amount raised, but to say that we will exceed our goal is an understatement.”
