Let’s Go Dancing in the Light

As part of our Food First program, we’ve enjoyed partnering with the Galveston County Food Bank – Gleanings from the Harvest. On December 12, 2010, the organization hosted its annual Harvest Moon Gala. The party is its biggest fundraising event for the year, and First Choice Power was honored to be a Commander Sponsor of the event.

This year’s gala honored Dick and Horacene Daugird, co-founders of the Lighthouse Charity, who have worked tirelessly for Galveston County. First Choice Power business development manager Gabe Sims was there to show our support. “We’re proud to lend our support to Gleanings from the Harvest and this event; it was a wonderful evening.”

Allan Matthews, Gleanings From the Harvest Board member, Angel Food volunteer and 2010 board chair and co-emcee of the gala was grateful for First Choice Power’s partnership in the event. He said that joining forces with the Galveston County Food Bank shows, “1. That your company cares, 2. That First Choice Power recognizes the ‘food insecure’ epidemic in our county (and nation), 3. That it affects the ‘working poor’ and probably your own employees and is an ongoing struggle, and the food bank can’t run PURELY on good will, 4. That First Choice Power is taking action, not waiting on someone else to get involved, and 5. Finally, that there is a time to HELP and a time to JUDGE and we are only supposed to do one of those."

Thanks to you, Allan, and all involved for coordinating the event! It was truly a night to remember, and the benefits will be felt throughout the year.
