Grizzlies in Texas?
In this economy, Texas schools need all the help they can get, and First Choice Power is happy to do what we can to help. This year, we were a Gold Sponsor of GrizzFest at the Michael L. Griffin Elementary School. Held on Friday, April 8, the PTA-sponsored event included carnival activities, an auction, music, food and lots of fun. Proceeds will be used to buy technology items for curriculum support at the school.
It wasn’t all cotton candy and corndogs for us at the event — we were actually busy collecting canned food donations as part of our Food First program to fight hunger here in Texas. For every item donated, folks got a carnival ticket and a special “I took a Grizzly bite out of hunger” sticker.
The event raised more than 2,000 canned and non-perishable items for Katy Christian Ministries, one of our Food First partners. It was the largest donation its ever received from a single elementary school.
First Choice Power area representative (and Grizzly parent) Kevin Drury was thrilled to have First Choice Power be a part of this year’s GrizzFest. “Taking part in GrizzFest was a great way for First Choice Power to support our local schools and our local food bank. That’s what it’s all about, is helping people in the community.”
