You Go, Girl!
First Choice Power was happy to partner with the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas to sponsor this year’s Girl Scout College Journey program (formerly called Interest Project College). About 40 girls in seventh- through eleventh-grade attended the program, held at Texas Women’s University in Denton. The girls lived in campus dorms for a week as they explored campus and learned about preparing for college and a fulfilling career. Activities included everything from sessions on résumé writing and business etiquette to help preparing for their Girl Scout Silver and Gold projects, which the girls must complete to progress through the scouting ranks.
We were especially excited for the events of July 14, which included an on-site field trip to First Choice Power’s home office in Irving. The girls toured our office and learned the ropes with teams from our sales, marketing, customer service, market research and accounting departments. “I was very impressed by these young girls, from their great behavior to their enthusiasm for learning and having fun,” said First Choice Power tour guide Bill Beasley. “It was a really enjoyable experience.”
Thanks again for coming, girls! We really had a great time. First Choice Power employee Benji Coomer pretty much summed it up, saying: “I hope the Girl Scouts learned as much from us as we did from them!"
