The Largest One-Day Food Drive in Texas
While many Texans spend the days before Thanksgiving looking up recipes or brining their turkey, hundreds of folks in the Central Texas area came together to put on the largest one-day food drive in Texas. The drive is coordinated by Food for Families, a coalition of food pantries across Central Texas. As part of our Food First™ program, to end hunger in Texas, First Choice Power donated 12,000 meals to Caritas of Waco, and we even made it on TV with a feature interview on the 6 a.m. newscast on station KWTX, the CBS/CW affiliate who was also a sponsor of the food drive.
At the end of the day, a total of 1,221,385 pounds of food was collected. It’s a new all-time record, and we were proud to be part of a good days’ work. Shelley J. Whitley, assistant operations manager/media consultant at KWTX-CBS/CW, said: “What makes the Food for Families Food Drive such a big success is wonderful companies like First Choice Power that step up and make a huge difference in our communities. We at News10 want to thank you for being a part of this years drive and we look forward to seeing you again next year.”
