We Never Expected An Award

Last November, we were happy to take part in the Food for Families event, the largest one-day food drive in Texas. As part of our Food First™ program, to end hunger in Texas, First Choice Power donated 12,000 meals to Caritas of Waco, and we even made it on TV with a feature interview on the 5 p.m. newscast on station KWTX, the CBS/CW affiliate who was also a sponsor of the food drive.

Well, we never imagined that we would win an award for our donation, but at the awards ceremony in January, First Choice Power won for most pounds of food donated! We couldn’t be more honored. This is the second time we won this award! First Choice Power employee Keith Leija attended and accepted the award. “It was really great to see different business and individuals of our community come together and support this great cause,” Keith said.

At the end of the day, a total of 1,221,385 pounds of food was collected during the drive. It’s a new all-time record, and we were proud to be part of a good days’ work.
