Kicking Hunger Out of Texas

In June, we were proud to kick off our Food First™ program to fight hunger all over Texas. The statewide program got going in Lufkin, in partnership with the East Texas Food Bank. One of our programs goals is to distribute 1 million meals to families across the state by this time next year. At least 1,000 of these meals will go out during the summer right here in Lufkin to kids who take part in the free lunch program during the school year.

Kids who attend the summer program on Fridays will be able to take home a bag of healthy food such as granola bars, canned lasagna, fruit cups, cereal, peanut butter and other non-perishable items to help their family get through the weekend. We’ve even found biodegradable bags for the meals to go out in, so we can help families without hurting the environment.
