Midland Lee: Takes the Game and the Clash of the Cans
When you think about Texas football, one of the biggest high school rivalries that comes to mind is Odessa Permian vs. Midland Lee. After all, these are the West Texas teams that inspired the book Friday Night Lights, now a hit television show on NBC, and launched stars like Cedric Benson and Roy Williams.
This year, First Choice Power took the fight off the field when Odessa and Midland participated in our Clash of the Cans competition. Each school fought to bring the most cans and non-perishable items to their schools and Odessa’s Ratliff Stadium on Friday night to benefit the West Texas Food Bank as part of our Food FirstTM program.
For the game itself, First Choice Power employees established a friendly rivalry with Ryan Horn cheering for the Mojo and Dawn Taylor cheering for the Rebels. In the end, Midland Lee won the game (20 to 13) and the Clash of the Cans. Together, the schools and First Choice Power helped donate more than 6,000 meals for the West Texas Food Bank.
First Choice Power came to Midland Lee for a special pep rally on Oct. 29 to present the Rebels with a Clash of the Cans trophy and community involvement scholarship. We also went ahead and gave a scholarship to the Odessa Permian Mojo to honor their solid participation in the competition. Many thanks to both schools and all the students, faculty and staff who participated to make the Clash of the Cans competition such a success.
