We’re Fore Camp
We had a great time at Camp Summit’s 17th Annual Benefit Golf Tournament at Bear Creek Golf Club in Dallas. First Choice Power was a corporate sponsor of the scramble-format tournament, which included lunch, golfer gifts, contests on the course with contest prizes and a silent auction. The $92,000 that was raised at the event will directly benefit the camping program and the 2,000 remarkable campers of Camp Summit.
Camp Summit provides barrier-free outdoor experiences that promote growth and independence for children and adults with disabilities. Campers range in age from 6 to adulthood (last summer, the oldest camper was 80 years old) and may be developmentally delayed, physically challenged, dual sensory impaired or have multiple disabilities. Most importantly, the camp is a lot of fun for both the campers and staff!
Camp Summit is a nonprofit that is very close to our hearts here at First Choice Power. Our vice president of operations Josh Coleman has volunteered for the United Way for close to 22 years, and he is currently chair of the Camp Summit board of directors.
“The golf tournament is one of two primary fundraisers that Camp Summit uses to fund operations at the Camp and to help pay for camp in the event that the camper’s family cannot afford it,” Josh told us.
Lance McGee, one of our business development managers, has two sisters who attend Camp Summit each year. “It’s a great place for people to be themselves without judgment,” Lance said. “The girls look forward for camp to get here each year and talk about camp until it arrives again!”
First Choice Power intern Talia Short had a great time out on the course. “This was one of my favorite events so far,” Talia said. “I really enjoyed working with the Camp Summit staff; they work so hard and you can tell they are really committed to the organization.”
