Breakfast with Ballerinas and Basketballers
If you have young children (or you’re young at heart), clear your calendar for our Food First partner’s event. The Tarrant Area Food Bank’s Breakfast with the Stars is on Saturday, Mar. 24 from 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.. This is the fourth year for the event, which raises money for the nonprofit’s BackPacks for Kids weekend feeding program.
Celebrity guests include Chewbacca, the Texas Rangers’ “Captain,” the Maverick’s “Champ,” Cinderella, real ballerinas, Po the Kung Fu Panda, Winnie the Pooh Piglet, TCU Basketball players, real firefighters and many others. As if that wasn’t enough excitement, there will be numerous activities such as taekwondo, a beanbag toss, a storytelling corner, gymnastics, musical instruments, crafts and interactive science exhibits. Not to mention a delicious breakfast.
Tarrant Area Food Bank board member and First Choice Power community manager Catherine Carleton will be there with her son Jeffrey. She’s not sure if he’ll love it or be scared of the characters, but she’s promised us pictures either way.
There are currently 25 BackPacks for Kids sites in 10 school districts in four counties helping about 1,800 school children each week. The program sends home backpacks filled with child-friendly, nonperishable food so that children who receive free or reduced-price meals at school won’t go hungry over the weekend.
