Reving Up for the Car Show
In case you were too young to have met him the first time, Billy the Kid rode again on Saturday, April 2 at the first annual Billy the Kid Rides Again Open Car Show in Hico. Historic cars, tractors and even covered wagons lined the Hico Esplanade for this one-day event benefiting the Billy the Kid Museum as well as the Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. First Choice Power was a sponsor of the event.
For a $25 entry fee, grease monkeys were able to enter their roadsters to win in categories including Best of Show, Magnificent 7, Best Engine, Best Paint and more. On Friday night before the event, there was a historic chuck wagon supper for all pre-registered entrants, including biscuits cooked over the open fire and delicious peach cobbler for dessert. On Saturday, the show was free for anyone who wanted to roam the streets and talk cars. For those who were feeling lucky, a 50-50 drawing and other prizes were available throughout the day.
Two lovely members of the event committee, Ginger Rudisill and Sue Land, made a real cute video about the car show. They were sure to stress that there were lots of activities for the ladies, including antique shopping, a chocolate-making demonstration, a popcorn kite demonstration, two style shows, a gunslinger demonstration and music by the Buttermillk Junction Band and the Historic Ghost Riders. Wait – do ladies like gunslingers?
