Goodall Witcher is a small rural hospital serving the people of Clifton, Texas and Bosque County. We have it all here—a hospital and small nursing facility, a rural health clinic, a home health care department, a sleep center and a wellness fitness center—together in one facility. Our medical staff is very active; we just added a cardiac rehab program, and we’re one of the few rural hospitals that still provides obstetrics services.
We’re a 501c nonprofit, so we really have to watch our bottom line. With rising healthcare costs and a declining population, it’s a struggle to keep a small town hospital going. We are a major employer in the community, so people are counting on us for jobs as well as medical care.
We tried the other guys. After deregulation, we went with a big aggregate group for two years. Then Todd Clift, the Business Development Manager from First Choice Power, approached us and told us he could get us the same rate, and we switched.
It means a lot to be with a local company that cares about our facility. I consider Todd to be fair and honest—he’s very helpful. He looks ahead and thinks about what we’ll need. For example, he gave us a lot of advice about when would be a good time to lock in a favorable rate for our facility.
It’s good when everyone works together to support each other. First Choice Power is very active in the community; they’re always taking part in events around town, sponsoring the rodeo, Fall Fest, the Christmas parade and all kinds of stuff like that. As a hospital, we’re used to taking care of people, so it’s nice to be with a company that takes care of us and the people of Bosque County.
