There seems to be a national day for everything, right? National Goof-Off Day is March 22. Clean Up Your Room Day is May 10. (Note to self: Get on that. Now.)
National Volunteer Week hits a lot closer to home for us, though – and it’s this week! Even our president takes time to volunteer. How cool is that?
53 of our employees, which is more than half of those in our headquarters, are being recognized this week for being involved and supporting the communities and organizations we here at First Choice Power are so passionate about.
Employees volunteer through First Choice Power’s community involvement programs in many ways:
- Community Crew Committee: planning our volunteer events for the year
- Community Crew Volunteers: projects such as our Lewisville Cleanup or the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure last year. Together we logged more than 100 hours of volunteering last year on these projects.
- United Way Committee: leading our record-breaking year in raising funds for such an important nonprofit organization in our communities
- United Way Volunteer: baking lots of yummy treats for our silent auction to raise funds for the United Way
- Green Team: planning activities to help us conserve energy and resources and be good stewards for the environment
- Grant reviewers: volunteering to read our Reduce Your Use and Classroom Energy Innovation Grant applications and score them to help decide where we spend money in the community
- Volunteer Grants: donating at least 12 hours of their time to volunteering for a nonprofit in their community
- Matching Grants: doubling their donations of at least $25 to nonprofits and had their donation matched by First Choice Power
Each of them are stars in our eyes – and we get to see them everyday, as seen in the picture. Each star lists an employee name and the programs they participated in 2009. Pretty awesome and *bright* – just as an electricity company (and stars!) should be.
