With your house full of family there are several easy ways to save electricity and money on your bill.
Are you hosting a big party for New Year’s? You can probably lower your thermostat a few degrees as all the warm bodies will help heat your house. You can give the heater a little break.
Are you baking a lot of goodies for watching football? Use the oven light instead of opening the oven door whenever possible. Every time you open the oven door, your oven has to work hard to get the temperature back up to the desired degrees.
Washing lots of clothes or towels in between guests visits? Keep the dryer going without a break between loads; that way you can use some of the heat from the previous load to get the next one started. You also can save energy by using cold or colder water whenever possible. About 80 percent of the energy used by the washer is warming the water. Use colder water, and you’ll be using less energy.
Do you feel like you are always loading and unloading the dishwasher during the holidays? Don’t forget to use the “heat dry off” option to save some energy.
