Boy, it sure was nice of Mother Nature to keep the rain away from our long weekend. Though, it’s back to work today with some much-needed rain.
It’s Texas, so we know rain often means thunderstorms, which is a good time to review some safety tips when you hear that rumble overhead:
- Stay away from downed power lines (Keep your kids and pets away, too!).
- Don’t touch objects that are in contact with power lines, such as tree limbs or fences.
- If a power line falls across your vehicle, stay inside the car and wait for help. Your tires provide important insulation from the ground.
- If your power goes out, don’t assume the electric company knows. Call the outage number on your bill.
- Keep a flashlight and a self-powered radio handy in case of lost power. (Taking advantage of the outage for a romantic candlelight dinner? Be safe with the flames!)
- Install surge protectors to guard electronic equipment and appliances. (Not only does this protect your electronics, it also saves energy!)
- If you’re out and about during the storm, try to get inside as soon as possible. If you can’t get indoors, stay low to the ground and stay away from tall objects or trees.

Do what? A surge surge protector saves electricity? Come on now.
Hi Randy, Thanks for your comment. A surge protector is a quick way to save energy because multiple appliances may be plugged in at once, and you can shut them all off at the switch of a button. Let us know if you have any questions.
I really get scared of thunder and i don’t even go to switch on anything and we switch off all the lights.
Thanks for your comment, Brooklyn Heights Apartments. Turning off all the lights during a thunderstorm is a great way to prevent electricity issues from arising. If you aren’t aware of surge protectors, you should look into purchasing one for a quick switch off during a storm. Let us know if you have any more questions. Thanks for visiting The Current Blog.
