As most of you probably know by now, fighting Texas hunger is First Choice Power ’s No. 1 cause, and one fun and easy way we’ve been combatting it is on social media via the “Food First” tab on our Facebook page.
Almost every month this past year has been a new, simple way for you to help us give back to our food bank partners across Texas. This November was no different as we brought back our ever-so-popular Food First TM Food Bank poll, and boy, did our social media following participate! The poll saw over a total of 32,000 votes – wow!
Galveston County Food Bank took first place as it had almost 21,000 votes, so it received $1,500 from First Choice Power! Food Bank of Rio Grande Valley clocked in at second, taking home $1,250, and Tarrant Area Food Bank finished in third and was awarded $750 for its voting efforts.
We’d also like to give honorable mentions to the food banks that were entered via write-in votes: Crowley House of Hope, Mingus Gordon Food Pantry, Helping Hands for Jesus, Jeremiah Food Pantry and Mobile Loaves of Fishes. Congrats to all!
All December on the “Food First” tab, during this holiday season of giving, we’re helping fulfill Texas food banks’ “holiday wish list” items through an interactive “spin the wheel” game.
All funds raised through the “holiday wish list” game will be donated to the Texas Food Bank Network, an organization that distributes food and resources to food banks throughout the state.
Go ahead and give the wheel a “whirl” (you can spin up to five times a day!), and let us know what you land on by leaving us a comment below! Don’t forget to share with your friends, too!
Together, we’ll help feed families in need this holiday season!
