OK, so you are now on a fixed price plan but your bill is still nearly twice what I paid last summer.
Well, for one thing, it’s Texas. And it’s hot. It was 105 this week. You’re using more electricity than you did last year.
Now it’s time to manage that usage.
There are dozens upon dozens of no- and low-cost tips on how to save on your electric bill.
The most important thing you can do is buy and use a programmable thermostat. This allows you to change the temperature in your house when you’re not there. And program it to cool off in time for your return.
Programmable thermostats run about $50-$60. You can save that much on your bill in the first two month’s of use if you set your thermostat back at least 8 degrees while you’re at work.
This is a very good advice on programmable thermostats.
What is the best programable thermostat that can be purchased?
There are many different types of programable thermostats in the market. The key is to determine how many different temperature settings you will need. Some people only need a home and work setting as the house is empty during the day. Others need more complicated options as people come and go through out the day.
Don’t forget to consider whether you have a heat pump or a conventional air conditioning. This will change the model of thermostat you will need to purchase.
