Adam Smalls receives his First Choice Power Classroom Energy Innovation Grant alongside his principal and Dawn Diaz from First Choice Power.
Today First Choice Power released the names of all the 2009-10 Classroom Energy Innovation Grant recipients.
These teachers applied in September and were awarded their grants in November. First Choice Power employees have visited all of the teachers and met their students who will be doing cool, new, innovative projects with the grant funds to discuss energy and energy efficiency.
For Adam Smalls’ Northbrook Elementary students in Saginaw that means using laptop computers, stop-motion cameras and video-editing software to create a series of short movies about energy and conservation of natural resources
“The First Choice Power grant allows me to teach energy-efficiency to my students in a fun and creative way by integrating new technology and tools to our lessons,” Small said.
For Lucy Lara’s middle school students in Pecos that means using a solar car kit to race their cars against a hydrogen-powered car and a wind-powered car.
“The First Choice Power grant allows me to provide hands-on learning experiences for my students,” Lara said. “Incorporating math and science into one project provides the connectivity students need in education.”

I am a Teacher and Coach at Nocona Middle School and very proud to be so. We are in need of 20 MacBooks to use in our school. We are the only campus that does not have computers for 7th and 8th grades. We want to increase our campus scores and the only way to do that is to get this grant so we can buy the Macs. Thank you for everything that you have done for Nocona Independent School District.
Sincerely, Steve Park
