The East Texas Food Bank rallied and encouraged its donors, Facebook friends, Twitter followers and employees to vote in First Choice Power’s inaugural Facebook food bank poll in August.
All of the hustle and bustle ultimately led to the East Texas Food Bank’s crowning as our first winner, as well as a $1,000 grant donation from First Choice Power’s Food FirstTM program!
“This donation was very beneficial for us as we kicked off Hunger Action Month at the beginning of September,” said Dennis Cullinane, executive director of the East Texas Food Bank. “This allows us to add an additional 8,000 meals to our goal of providing 300,000 meals by Sept. 30.”
Since 1988, the East Texas Food Bank has provided food to more than 200 partner agencies, in an effort to feed children, the working poor and seniors throughout 26 counties in East Texas.
“We want to thank First Choice Power and everyone that voted on Facebook for the East Texas Food Bank to receive the first $1,000 gift for August,” Cullinane said. “That donation will also help us provide over 8,000 meals for hungry East Texans in the upcoming holiday season.”
Cullinane put out a challenge to other food banks: “We are already gearing up to win again in September, and making sure that our Facebook fans and Twitter followers know to vote for us.”
