The Clifton Chamber of Commerce board of directors meets in the kitchen of the chamber’s office building on Main Street in downtown Clifton.
With guidance from our local energy auditor, Todd, the chamber applied for a 2009 Reduce Your Use GrantTM to replace the old light bulbs with new energy-efficient models.
The new lighting is BRIGHT and energy efficient. It’s like it’s a different meeting room. The grant money was used to replace lighting in the kitchen and hallways.
The new energy-efficient lighting can cut the lighting portion of the electric bill by two-thirds. And these bulbs last longer, too.
“The challenge is the upfront costs,” Todd said. “They aren’t cheap. But you will more than recoop that cost over time on the energy savings on your electric bill.”
Often nonprofits and chambers don’t have the budget flexibility to spend a little more now to save later.
That’s where our= Reduce Your Use Grants come in. They help community partners like the Clifton Chamber purchase energy-efficient products and services so that they, the chamber, can focus their money on their mission and clients now and in the future.
Tell your favorite nonprofit to apply. The deadline is April 15. It’s easy to remember: Tax Day and First Choice Power Grant Day.
