Being a green company is a commitment First Choice Power has made to its employees, customers and owners for years.
In 2009, our employees made being green part of our company culture. First Choice Power has a Green Team comprised of employees from a variety of areas, and with your help and suggestions, the team plans to do even more in 2010.
What we do on an everyday basis to be green has real impact on the company resources.
Here’s a few examples of our success from ’09:
- Our new customer bill saves paper – about 100 trees a year!
- We offer customers Paperless Billing and Automatic Payment Options. Log in to your account to go green today.
- With suggestions from employees, we saved 52,000 pieces of paper to make a corporatewide publication electronic.
- Another suggestion encourages employees to do paperless paystubs. Employees can go online to see their pay stubs.
- We replaced all our paper cups and paper plates in our breakrooms with washable kitchenware.
- We defaulted 35 printers to print double-sided, which has saved reams of paper.
- And more…
What do you do at home or in your office that we could try, too?
A friend who works at a large energy company here in Houston let me know that they recently changed their policy so that employees no longer have an individual trash can under their desk. There are communal trash cans placed around the office floor. This cuts down on the waste from half-empty bags being emptied each day. It also is a huge reminder to the employees about their individual consumption.
We are trying to use more water bottles and ceramic mugs at work. Also purchasing local items that cut down on carbon emmissions in shipping.
Thanks for stopping by and leaving suggestions – I bet we could do that here!
