First Choice Power Fulfills Food Bank Holiday Wishes Using Facebook
IRVING, TEXAS – This holiday season, First Choice Power is empowering Facebook users to give back to Texas communities by hosting an interactive “Holiday Wish List” on its Facebook page. The game, which launched today, invites users to click to spin a wheel and land on one of the foods that food banks need the most during this time of year. First Choice Power will donate funds for that food item to help food banks feed people in need. The program is part of First Choice Power’s Food First™ initiative.
“Texas is the second worst state in the country when it comes to hunger, and the holidays are a time of increased need,” said Catherine Carlton, community relations manager for First Choice Power. “We’re hoping that through this fun, interactive game, we can raise awareness and funds to fight hunger in our state, while helping our Facebook fans get in the holiday spirit of giving.”
All funds raised through the Holiday Wish List game will be donated to the Texas Food Bank Network, an organization that distributes food and resources to food banks throughout the state. Earlier this year, First Choice Power partnered with the Texas Food Bank Network and Baylor’s Texas Health Initiative to produce the first-ever Hunger Gap Report, which outlines hunger needs in each county throughout the state.
“As the weather turns cold and the holiday season nears, more and more people in need are coming to the Texas Food Bank Network member food banks for food,” said Barbara Anderson, executive director of the Texas Food Bank Network. “Through partners such as First Choice Power and the power of the Internet this is an opportunity for individuals throughout the state to raise funds to help fill this need.”
In addition to the Holiday Wish List, First Choice Power has been supporting the Food First program through an employee donation of more than 2,200 meals and a food bank poll hosted on Facebook during the month of November that provided 7,500 meals.
To participate in the Holiday Wish List, Facebook users can visit www.Facebook.com/FirstChoicePower and click the “Food First” tab. To learn more about ways Food First is helping provide meals throughout the state, visit www.FirstChoicePower.com/FoodFirst.
Since June 2010, First Choice Power’s Food First program has provided more than 1 million meals to feed families in Texas.
