Food Bank RGV, First Choice Power Provide for Hungry Valley Children by Offering Holiday Food FirstTM Bags at the Boys & Girls Club of Edinberg and McAllen
McAllen, TX - The Food Bank RGV along with First Choice Power are proud to announce their upcoming program, Food First Holiday Bags for kids at the Boys & Girls Club in Edinburg and McAllen.
The more than 700 Food First Holiday Bags will be distributed before the schools break for Thanksgiving and Christmas, providing 5,040 meals to children in need. The distribution will be at the Boys & Girls Club in Edinburg and in McAllen on Galveston Street, when the Food Bank RGV will bring food ready to be distributed to children who might not have accesses to the nutrients their growing bodies’ need, especially over the holidays when school is out.
“We’re excited to be working with First Choice Power again, and we thank them for their generous contribution and admire their dedication to combat childhood hunger in the Rio Grande Valley,” said Libby Salinas, manager of agencies and child hunger programs for the Food Bank RGV. “Truly this is an excellent example of what community non-profit organizations and charitable companies can accomplish together. This summer together we provided 5,040 meals for children with Food First bags.”
Each child will receive a bag full of nutritious, easy-to-open child friendly items, such as cereal, shelf stable milk, juice, fruits, lasagna and vegetables.
“Texas ranks as the second state in most need when it comes to hunger,” said Sonia Guajardo-Lopez, First Choice Power’s account manager for the Rio Grande Valley and a member of the board of the Food Bank RGV. “We believe that no one should go hungry and are making hunger our No. 1 cause. Through our Food First program we have created multiple ways to help alleviate this issue. Partnering with the Food Bank RGV allows us to help the children most in need this holiday season.”
The Food First Holiday Bag distribution will take place on Tuesday November 23rd at the Boys and Girls Club at 2620 W. Galveston, McAllen, and on Wednesday November 24th at the Boys & Girls Club 2020 El Tule & Administrative Offices 702 South 18th Street, Edinburg 78539.
