First Choice Power Sponsors Green Christmas for Hico
This year, the color of Hico’s town center won’t be the only part that’s green for the holidays. Thanks to First Choice Power, the symbol of holiday cheer is receiving new, energy-efficient LED lights.
“Outlining Hico’s historic downtown buildings with LED Christmas lights will really enhance the appearance of the City for the holidays,” said City Administrator Michael Leamons. “LED lights have the added benefits of being energy efficient and having a long life. Thanks to First Choice Power’s generous gift, we can light up downtown for the holidays while minimizing electric consumption.”
LED lights are about 80 percent more energy efficient than traditional holiday lights, said Todd Clift, First Choice power’s customer account manager for Hico and the surrounding counties. Because the Hico town center usually requires thousands of lights, the LED enhancement will translate to about $1,000 in energy savings for the city.
“LED lights last longer than incandescent lights, and they are a lot more durable,” Clift said. “We hope that the city will enjoy the lights for many years to come and will see additional savings by not having to purchase them year after year. This is part of our long-term partnership with Hico.”
The lights are scheduled to go on display Saturday, Nov. 27. Over two years, First Choice Power has provided 2,100 lights with 2,100 LED lamps.
