First Choice Power Kicks Off Hunger Action Month With Opportunities to Donate Meals, Raise Awareness
IRVING, TEXAS – First Choice Power today followed Gov. Rick Perry’s declaration of September as Hunger Action Month with the company’s own pledge to fight hunger through its Food First™ program. The company is inviting the public to participate through social media and raising awareness through a series of blog posts.
“Texas ranks as the second-worst state when it comes to hunger,” said Brian Hayduk, president, First Choice Power. “We believe that no one should go hungry and are making hunger our No. 1 cause. Through our Food First program we have created multiple ways to help alleviate this issue, and we hope our fellow Texans will join us.”
During the entire month of September, those interested in helping fight hunger can participate in the following ways. First Choice Power will donate a meal to the Texas Food Bank Network for each person who:
-
Retweets the company’s #HungerAction/#FoodFirst messages on Twitter in September
-
Comments on any Hunger Action Month blog posts on the company’s blog, The Current
-
Posts a comment on First Choice Power’s Facebook posts related to Hunger Action Month
Additionally, the company’s blog, The Current, will feature a series called “30 Ways in 30 Days,” based on a program begun by Feeding America®. Each day, First Choice Power’s community relations manager Catherine Carlton will experience one way to fight hunger or raise awareness and invite the public to participate. Actions include setting an extra place at the dinner table for those in need or reading a hunger-related book to children.
The Food First program launched in June 2010 with an innovative summer food bag program for children. So far, in addition to the bag program, it has provided more than 800,000 meals through employee volunteerism, food drives and social media promotions, with a goal of providing 1 million meals by the end of 2011. First Choice Power aims to make a difference for the approximately 1.3 million families in Texas that do not have enough food.
