To Help With Summer Energy Efficiency, First Choice Power Takes a Patriotic Approach
IRVING, TEXAS – First Choice Power is helping Texas residents beat the summer heat by providing a unique way to remember important energy-efficiency tips to save energy and stay cool. In honor of Independence Day, think “red, white and blue.”
“By implementing these simple tips, we hope that customers will be able to save energy and also be more comfortable during the hot summer months,” said Brian Hayduk, president of First Choice Power. “We are a company committed to energy conservation, so the more we can do to help our customers join that effort, the better.”
RED
-
Check for hot air around windows and doors. Seal leaks with calk and weather stripping. To find out how to receive a weatherization kit, visit www.firstchoicepower.com/energymakeover.
-
Feel your walls for hot spots that may indicate poorly insulated areas.
WHITE
-
Replace your old light bulbs with CFLs - Compact Fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) last longer and save 10 percent to 15 percent compared with traditional incandescent bulbs.
-
Reflect the light coming in through your windows by adding white lining to your window treatments. This will help keep out some of the intense summer sunlight.
-
Check your thermostat – The air conditioning part of your electric utility bill rises as much as 10 percent for each degree that you turn the thermostat down in the summer. Keeping your home at 78 degrees instead of 72 degrees reduces the air conditioning system’s electricity use by almost 60 percent.
BLUE
-
Wash in Cold – Washing your clothes in cold water saves 75 percent versus using hot water.
-
Conserve water – Take five-minute showers and make sure your water heater is set at or below 120 degrees.
“Energy efficiency is more than just saving money. The average home pollutes two times as much as the average car,” said Steve Saunders of Texas Energy Solutions, a Dallas-based company that helps Texans improve energy efficiency in their homes. “By reducing wasted energy, controlling the temperature and humidity, you will utilize less total energy to power your home. You will not only save money but you can contribute to dramatic reduction of sulfur, nitrous oxides and carbon emissions and thereby improve the quality of air for all of Texas. What could be more patriotic than that!”
