First Choice Power Donates Steer, Pig to Bosque County Food Pantry
IRVING, TEXAS – First Choice Power purchased a grand champion steer and a pig during the Central Texas Fair last weekend and is having it made into ground beef, pork chops and bacon to donate to Bosque County Helping Hands.
Each year, First Choice Power partners with local businesses to purchase animals to support the local kids during the fair. This year, First Choice Power opted not to resell the meat and instead donate it to the local food pantries as part of its Food FirstTM campaign to provide 1 million meals to Texans in need.
“We know that meat is a valuable item to the food bank,” said Todd Clift, business development manager for Clifton and Bosque County. “We wanted to make this a double win for the community – supporting the local kids and our local food pantries.”
Clift said that most of the 800 pounds of beef and 170 pounds of pork will be delivered to the North Bosque Helping Hands food bank; and a portion of the meat will be used for a fund-raiser for the Clifton food bank, which currently does not have a refrigerator or freezer to store the meat.
"This is just a great example of the commitment First Choice Power has made to Bosque County,” said Paulette McGlamery of North Bosque Helping Hands. “Not only are they supportive of the youth and their activities, but the donation of the meat to the food pantries shows their concern for all the citizens. Many families will benefit from their generosity. The volunteers of North Bosque Helping Hands are thrilled to be a recipient of their donation and to partner with such an outstanding organization as First Choice Power."
